Sunday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM Ride along with a veteran TWIN tracker on an actual winter carnivore track survey! While your focus will be on finding wolf tracks and scent posts and counting individuals, you’ll likely encounter a full array of other carnivores as well – coyote, bobcat, fox, and fisher as you learn the tips and tricks to read the stories written in the snow. Bring a bag lunch and beverage and appropriate clothing for several hours outdoors. You’ll likely encounter tracks and sign of other winter wildlife as well. After lunch, you’ll head to the field to examine wolf tracks and scent posts and to get a close-up look at wolves’ mastery of the wintery landscape, as you learn more about wolves’ ecological role. Morning lectures will cover basic wolf management principles, human value systems, and wolves’ natural history and ecology – all topics that are timely and important, given the ongoing controversies surrounding this iconic animal, and its status as a keystone predator. Saturday, 9:00 AM ~ 4:30 PM Join retired DNR Wolf Biologist Dick Thiel and the TWIN crew for a Wisconsin Wolf Ecology and Management Clinic. Our dates and venues for 2023 are – Beaver Creek Reserve, Fall Creek WI – January 28/29, 2023 S1 County Hwy K Due to the close proximity required for our events, help us stay healthy – request a refund and stay home if you’re feeling ill or have been exposed to COVID. Here’s a typical agenda for our two-day workshops. Challenges and trials would come against them, and the mettle of the mountain man would have to prove its worth if he was up to it.We’re excited to be resuming our Winter Workshop schedule in 2023! We’ll be back at our normal venues – Treehaven, Beaver Creek Reserve, and Sandhill Outdoor Skills Center. But an attack by the same Jicarilla Apache and Mouache Ute that wiped out Fort Pueblo on Christmas day would put them all to the test, and that wasn't all that would be thrown at them by the forces of nature, the wilds of the wilderness and the depravity of man. Tate Saint, known as the Rocky Mountain Saint, and his family would soon provide all the help she needed and more. Only one man in the mountains could handle that task. But her goal was the gold fields of California and she needed help. When the wagon train she joined was hit by Indians and she and her family were left behind, her skill with a big Sharps rifle made her a welcome addition to a buffalo hunt with the Comanche. But she had a set of twins that needed to be raised and the city was no place for that. She had the complexion of weathered leather, eyes like shining lumps of coal, a voice that grated like a rasp, and she was a skilled gunsmith with the demeanor of a wolverine.
